Planning and Project Management
Technimove’s migration methodology is designed to focus on minimising downtime, reducing risk and guaranteeing the efficient delivery of server migration projects. The Technimove Project Manager worked with the Warwick Project Team to plan and prepare critical documentation and client plans for the project through a series of conference calls and meetings.
Due to the critical nature of the equipment, it was decided to heavily phase the project into 70 phases split over 35 days migrating 2 devices per day. This was to ensure risk was minimised as much as possible whilst ensuring the client experienced no downtime.
The Migration
On the day of each phase, Technimove engineers arrived onsite in Coventry to the agreed start time of the migration to sign in and prepare packaging material.
Once onsite, a single device was handed over to Technimove to systematically Decommission, De-rack and wrap in anti-static bubble wrap for protection, before being placed into a purpose built, foam lined, server flight case.
The flight case was then secured in a pre-fuelled GPS tracked Mercedes vehicle, before Technimove travelled directly to the destination site a short distance away.
Once at the destination, the equipment was unpacked, re-racked and recommissioned, in line with the destination documentation.
Technimove undertook final checks before handing the equipment back over the client for the testing to commence.
Our specialist engineer then returned to the collection facility to collect the second device before repeating the above process. This phase was repeated over 35 separate phases.
