Compliant IT Asset Disposal for a Global Life Sciences Organisation

Technimove supported a global life sciences organisation with the secure retirement of legacy data centre infrastructure in the US.

A large scale ITAD project delivering secure deinstallation, certified data destruction and full audit assurance, with minimal disruption to an active data centre environment.

Background

A global life sciences organisation was undertaking a large‑scale data centre refresh, creating the need to safely retire a significant volume of legacy IT infrastructure. With strict compliance, data security and sustainability requirements, the organisation needed a partner that could manage the physical removal, secure transportation and certified disposal of equipment without disrupting operations or introducing risk.

Technimove was engaged to deliver a controlled, compliant IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) service at a US data centre location in Pennsylvania.

Challenge

The project involved the decommissioning and removal of a high volume of populated racks and associated infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking equipment and power units. Key challenges included:

  • Data security – ensuring all data‑bearing assets were destroyed in line with recognised industry standards
  • Regulatory compliance – meeting local and international environmental and recycling regulations
  • Operational risk – safely deinstalling and removing equipment from an active data centre environment
  • Audit and assurance – providing clear evidence of disposal for governance and compliance teams

The client required a single, accountable partner to manage the end‑to‑end process, from on‑site collection through to certified disposal and reporting.

Our Solution

Technimove delivered a fully managed ITAD service, tailored to the client’s operational and compliance needs.

Working onsite, Technimove engineers safely disconnected and removed equipment identified for decommissioning, using floor protection throughout the data centre to minimise risk to the facility. All assets were securely transported to a certified processing facility and disposed of in line with R2v3 standards.

For complete reassurance, all data‑bearing devices were processed through an audited, off‑site data destruction service that meets both R2v3 certification and the RIOS Gold Standard for electronics recycling.

To support governance and audit requirements, Technimove provided the client with a fully serialised asset report, detailing all collected equipment and confirming the number of drives destroyed.

Client Outcome

By partnering with Technimove, the client achieved:

  • Reduced risk through controlled deinstallation, secure transport and certified disposal
  • Full data protection assurance, with audited destruction of all data‑bearing devices
  • Regulatory and environmental compliance, supporting corporate sustainability and ESG commitments
  • Clear auditability, with detailed reporting to satisfy internal and external stakeholders
  • Minimal operational disruption, thanks to an experienced onsite team and structured project delivery

The result was a smooth, compliant retirement of legacy infrastructure, giving the client confidence that sensitive assets were handled responsibly from start to finish.
