Smart Hands support for Global Consulting and Engineering Company

A global consulting and engineering company faced a critical operational challenge and requested the support of Technimove's Smart Hands services.

Technimove delivered critical Smart Hands support for a complex IT infrastructure cutover on a live offshore vessel and onshore facility, completing the transition ahead of schedule with zero downtime while meeting strict contractual deadlines.Retry

Challenge

A global consulting and engineering company faced a critical operational challenge—transitioning IT infrastructure on a live, floating vessel in the Irish Sea while simultaneously establishing a functional support office onshore.

The operation required replacement and reconnection of essential hardware under an extremely tight deadline, with zero margin for disruption. Delays or missteps would impact business continuity and jeopardise the timely handover of contractual control.

Objective

To execute a seamless IT infrastructure cutover that met strict contractual obligations, avoided downtime, and ensured both offshore and onshore systems were fully operational by the required deadline.

Why Technimove?

Technimove had an established relationship with the client and a global track record of rapid deployment and dependable service delivery.

With certified engineers, logistical expertise, and deep understanding of live operational environments, Technimove was uniquely positioned to handle the project end-to-end.

Solution Provided by Technimove

Offshore Support (Irish Sea Pioneer Rig)

  • Deployed 1x BOSIET-certified engineer for 4 days (June 28 – July 1)
  • Transport logistics handled via helicopter (personnel) and boat (hardware)
  • Collaborated with incumbent IT staff onsite

This deployment ensured Technimove had a qualified engineer onboard the vessel who could legally and safely operate in offshore environments, a necessity due to BOSIET compliance.

Working directly alongside existing IT staff reduced delays and enabled real-time problem-solving during the transition.

  • Built and installed a 12U rack in tight comms room conditions
  • Deployed 6 wireless access points (WAPs)
  • Installed rack servers, UPS units, and Nasuni storage (pre-configured)

These infrastructure upgrades formed the backbone of the vessel’s new IT environment. Building the rack in a constrained space without disrupting incumbent systems was critical.

By pre-configuring storage solutions prior to shipping, Technimove saved valuable time and reduced the risk of configuration errors offshore.

  • Relocated patch panels and Starlink comms equipment to the new rack
  • Replaced 13 laptops, monitors, and one printer

This ensured that the client’s network hardware and user devices were fully integrated into the new infrastructure, maintaining continuity while enabling the incumbent systems to be decommissioned once the cutover was confirmed successful. The Starlink setup provided critical offshore internet connectivity.

  • Provided Hands & Eyes (H&E) support to:
    • Starlink setup
    • The client’s network team
    • The printer vendor

The presence of on-site Smart Hands support allowed for immediate troubleshooting and installation guidance for both internal and third-party technology teams. This reduced reliance on remote coordination, which can be unreliable in offshore environments.

  • Supported onboard team during login and connectivity testing
  • Ensured readiness for 00:01 July 1 cutover

Technimove’s support ensured that users could access systems smoothly, enabling a swift and efficient go-live.

This guaranteed operational readiness in line with the contract deadline, and actually resulted in an earlier-than-planned cutover.

Onshore Support

  • Deployed 1x Level 3 Engineer for 2 days (June 30 – July 1)
  • Collaborated with a multinational energy company to:
    • Join their guest wireless
    • Configure laptops and monitors
    • Replace and configure a printer for wireless use

This onshore deployment supported the client’s ground operations by establishing a reliable IT working environment in the energy company’s office.

Joining the guest network enabled new systems to operate within the constraints of a shared office, and printer configuration avoided delays in document processing needs.

  • Onboarded 7 new employees with configured laptops
  • Provided Hands & Eyes support to the client and printer vendor

This element was crucial in ensuring that the client’s staff could begin work immediately with minimal downtime.

Technimove’s team facilitated device setup, ensured network connectivity, and provided real-time support—accelerating user productivity from day one.

Results and Conclusion

  • Successful Transition: All infrastructure components were installed, tested, and transitioned on time, with zero disruption to offshore or onshore operations.
  • Operational Readiness: Full system access and functionality achieved by all users prior to the hard deadline.
  • Exceeding Expectations: The cutover was completed ahead of schedule, contributing to project success and client satisfaction.
